Congress made a historic move last Thursday by passing a bill allowing Veterans Administration (VA) doctors to recommend medical marijuana to their patients. This opens new possibilities for the treatment of many different health issues Veterans face in which cannabis can combat! The Veterans Equal Access Amendment removes a previous restriction on VA doctors recommending medical marijuana as treatment for veterans who suffer from pain, PTSD, or other qualifying conditions. This bill has the potential to not only help end suffering for many veterans, but also reduce their rate of opioid abuse and suicide. The combination of this new bill passing and Dr. Sue Sisley’s study on the effects of marijuana on PTSD could prove to bring much needed aid to a well deserved group of Americans.
