The Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol has used an inventive tactic to increase knowledge and influence with their new billboard ad campaign, “Have you talked to your parents about marijuana?” The ad is meant to counter previous anti-legalization strategies by encouraging younger voters to start conversations about marijuana with their older family members, a voter demographic who has been led to believe that marijuana is more harmful that it actually is, and whose favor is key to the the initiatives success this November. CRMLA Chairmen and Arizona Natural Selections founder, J.P. Holyoak, explains, “For decades, the federal government distributed anti-marijuana propaganda to parents and encouraged them to share it with their children. It’s time for younger folks to start sharing the facts about marijuana with their parents and other older relatives.”
The billboard directs its viewers to a website called TalkItUpArizona.com which allows them to send a message or print a script for discussion with family members. Those who are willing to aid the cause should use this script as a tool to help build awareness about the unlawful state of marijuana prohibition in Arizona.
